Gimme the CBDs?

I just read an article about a new strain of cannabis. Breeding is a hobby for some folks. It’s research for others. This particular strain contains 4.8% THC and 9.4% CBD. Cannabidiol (CBD) aids in pain relief and has also shown promise in cancer treatment including remediation. With this strain a person could reap the CBD benefits without the psychotropic effect. Interesting.

I must admit a touch of skepticism. The bottle shown has the new strain labeled as a cross of Blueberry and OG Kush. Both of those are rather stoney.  I aint no scientist though. What’a I know?

Oh wait! What about that U.S. CBD patent? Heh.

For the lay people in teh audience, what are the more “normal” percentages?

It varies with the strains. 5% CBD and 15% THC wouldn’t be too far out of the ball park. (the % is by weight of the “oils”)

GW Pharmaceutical’s Sativex (a sublingual spray) ratio is
1 to 1. I don’t know the concentration. They are trying to get the most effect from both without creating a heavy psychotropic result.

Some folks claim that today’s cannabis contains more THC
than yesterday’s. That’s not necessarily true. What’s happened is plants have been developed that contain less
CBD thereby elevating the THC effect; CBD being an antagonist at the CB1 receptor.
